Fractured Proverbs and Twisted Thoughts
Laughter is a vital component of life.
And if what provokes laughter also stimulates
contemplation, so much the better.
Fractured
Proverbs and Twisted Thoughts
might even be an alternative to Road Rage.
Instead of yelling at the other drivers,
why not come up with some clean, creative
phrases to vent your spleen and still
keep your dignity intact. I call this
process creative cursing. It could evolve
into a fine art, if enough of us practiced
it.
My favorite practitioner
of sublime creative cursing was Shakespeare.
I believe creative cursing ought to be
part of any college curriculum. In the
process of stretching verbal and mental
skills, students would have a greater
grasp of the English language, its nuances
- and they would escape the trap of the
four-letter word syndrome.
Most humor books are anecdotal in nature.
The sayings in Fractured Proverbs and
Twisted Thoughts are intended to stand
alone. They are primarily intended to
provoke a smile, a chuckle or even an
outright laugh, but they are also designed
to provoke thought and perhaps discussion.
After all, humor is merely the smiley
face of darkness. Humor is the means by
which we stay sane in an increasingly
insane world.
